This barn dates back to the early 19th century.  It is a shake barn with a shake shingle roof.

Friends of Linden has four major objectives:

  1. To protect the rural heritage of Southern Maryland, La Plata in particular

  2. To locate, protect and preserve old Tobacco Barns

  3. To protect and preserve “Linden” a property on the National Register of Historic Places and part of Maryland’s Historic Trust

  4. To ensure that horses are always a part of Linden’s operation

Linden is a restored Plantation House circa 1783.  The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and is in the Maryland Conservation Heritage.  It is situated on 47 acres of farmland, 35 of which comprise Linden Farm.   The Farm has two very old barns, the tin-roofed barn at the corner of Linden Farm Place and Mitchell Road dates from the early 20th century, certainly before 1920.

The second is a Tobacco Barn with a restored Cedar Roof dating from the mid-1800s.

The Farm is also host to Linden Farm Inc., and an indoor riding arena and 16-stall barn with full amenities.  Linden Farm, Inc. provides riding lessons for the local community, five Horse Shows, Trail Rides, and other Horse related competitions in keeping with the goals stated above.

Your donations help to support the four objectives listed above.

Linden owns two dependencies.  The outbuildings were relocated to the property and date back to the 18th Century.  They were used for storage.
