Luke was born in North Carolina in March 1998. That makes him 27 years old now. He is a Registered American Quarter Horse and carries some of the most famous Quarter Names in his pedigree: Doc and Poco lines as well a the very ancient and noble Bar line.

In 2013 he was purchased for the use of two young girls. Luke had been a Western Pleasure Horse but became a dressage horse. After a year or so riding Dressage, the girls decided they wanted to compete in Hunter classes and so came to Linden to teach Luke to jump. Miss Karen quickly had him trotting and cantering fences very quietly and nicely. In fact, he became one of Linden’s toughest competitors at many of the local shows.

After his owner died, he was left to the care of the girls and life was not as nice for him. He had a fall in the trailer (being driven in a stock trailer with no center board) and damaged his right shoulder. He was never the same, and without proper therapy he simply could not pin as he had before and the girl’s lost interest in him. He was boarded at stables based purely on how little they charged, and his care became negligible.

In March 2020 he was turned over to METS as a rescue horse and Miss Karen saw him and negotiated his adoption by Miss Pat who brought him to Linden. Within just a few months of proper care at Linden, he was fat and in good health, his feet were trimmed even and level, so they did not exacerbate his shoulder injury, and he was on daily Equioxx and twice yearly Adequan to ease those joints.

He was restarted as a lesson horse, walk-trot only and with light weight riders. When one of his former owners came to see him, she did not recognize him because he looked like a new horse. He is getting a bit slower now, and can be grumpy about that darn girth!! He has been a good, gentle and obedient lesson horse for these past five years. Miss Karen and Miss Pat have given him a really good life here at Linden and he has proven their faith in him.
